Bristol Bowmen and
Golden Phoenix Archers

For news about competitions, please see the competitions section.

The year saw a great many changes for the club:

At the AGM in September a presentation was made by the newly formed Golden Phoenix Archers, who were looking for a ground. This club had been set up to cater specifically for the needs of disabled archers, but had nowhere to shoot. The mood of the meeting was very positive and the vote went in favour of Golden Phoenix Archers.

Earlier in the year Steve and Tracy Moseley resigned and Harvey Abrams did not renew his membership. This left vacant posts on the committee. At the AGM, Mike Townsend was elected as Chair and Sheena McCullagh, returning to the fold after nearly a two year break, was elected Secretary for both clubs. Andy Friend was elected as Chair for Golden Phoenix Archers and Records' Officer for both clubs. Ian Lassman and Pete Moore retained their positions as President and Treasurer of Bristol Bowmen respectively.

Congratulations go to:

  • Lance Whitelegg who joined Bristol Bowmen in September. Shortly after, he changed from recurve to compound, submitted three scores and got his third class.
  • Andy Friend who brought two second class scores with him from his previous club and on his first shoot as a member of Golden Phoenix Archers, got his third one. This makes him the first person ever in GPA to obtain a new classification. Well done Andy. This achievement can never be taken away from you.
  • Ian Lassman and Pete Moore for regaining their first class. Neither had submitted enough scores during 2005 and so had lost their classifications.
  • Clive Wilkins, who had not submitted any scores at all during 2005, was finally persuaded to submit three, all of which were second class, so once again he has a classification.

At the AGM in September, all officers were re-elected. During the year Sheena McCullagh had resigned, so Steve Moseley had picked back up the role of Records' Officer.  Paul Maines did not renew his membership.

At the AGM in September, Moira Gundry resigned as Secretary after many, many years service. Tracey Moseley was elected into the vacant office. After a year of being both Chair and Records' Officer, Steve Moseley stood down from the latter. Sheena McCullagh was voted in as his replacement. Paul Maines was elected Child Protection Officer. A new post of Vice-Chair was created. Harvey Abrams was elected into it. All other officers were returned to office.

Congratulations go to:

  • Steve Moseley, the first visually impaired archer to qualify for a Six Gold End. He did this at 70 metres on the club ground.

This year saw a new Chair elected, Steve Moseley.

Congratulations go to:

  • Steve Moseley for both being the first ever visually impaired archer to reach Bowman classification (8 September) and also for being selected first reserve for the British Blind Sports archery team.
