Best gold. There will be no warning as to when this will be done. The club captain will suddenly tell everyone to leave all gold arrows in the target. The arrow closest to the center of the target will win the archer a medal.

Friday 18 December – Dark and cold outside, cheerful and warm in the venue.

The competitors were:

Adults: Nick Griffin, Barebow; Mel Hilton, Compound; Peter John, Barebow; Ian Lassman, Recurve; Rodney Luton, Barebow; Rob Morgan, Recurve; Mark Pollard, Barebow; Bob Taylor, Recurve and Paul Wilcox, Barebow.

Juniors: Harry Francis, Recurve; Tom Francis, Recurve and Tim Morgan, Barebow.

The round was: loosely based on a Portsmouth, five dozen arrows, half a dozen each at ten different, specially designed, target faces.

The results were:

Adults: 1 Paul Wilcox; 2 Ian Lassman.

Juniors: 1 Harry Francis; runner-up medals to both Tom Francis and Tim Morgan.

Our thanks go to Bob Taylor for organising the whole event, including designing and printing the targets and to Andrew Francis for running the line and taking the photographs.

The evening ended with the awards being presented by our Santa Paramount, Bob Taylor, who, in-keeping with recent tradition, donned a pointy hat for the occasion, his own Christmassy one.

Sunday 6 September – Lovely weather for archery, not sunny enough for sunburn, not cold enough to need jumpers. The breeze was slightly capricious, but other than that, it couldn't have been much more perfect.

Gents' barebow: 1 Rodney Luton; 2 Nick Griffin.

Gents' compound: 1 Hossein Tavakoli.

Gents' longbow: 1 Frank Bath.

Ladies' recurve: 1 Carolyn Twist.

Ladies' barebow: 1 Sheena McCullagh.

Ladies' compound: 1 Melanie Hilton.

Short National:

Gents' under 14 recurve: 1 Harry Francis.

Junior National:

Gent's recurve: 1 Bob Taylor.

Gents' recurve – head-to-head: 1 Roger Hobbs; 2 Steve Ramkaran.

Ladies' recurve: 1 Elizabeth Gray; 2 Michelle Morgan.

Short Junior National:

Beginner Gents' barebow – head-to-head: 1 Jack Bannell.

Gents' under 12 recurve: 1 Tom Francis.

Gents' under 12 recurve – head-to-head: 1 Tim Morgan.

Gents' under 12 barebow: 1 Toby West.

Gents' under 12 barebow – head-to-head: 1 Scott Hilton.

Ladies' under 13 recurve: 1 Sam Morgan.

Vic Williams Shield: This is awarded annually by ballot to the member who has done most for the clubs during the preceding year. And the winner was – Rob Morgan.

Highest handicap adjusted score for the adults shooting a National: Paul West.

Most golds: Hossein Tavakoli.

Best gold:

Adult: Sheena McCullagh.
Junior: Harry Francis.

The day ended with our traditional BBQ and the awards being presented by our Lady Paramount, Leah Griffin, who, following recent tradition, was happy to don the pointy hat.

Sunday 21 June (Father's Day), featuring the Andy Friend Challenge Trophy for the highest handicap adjusted score – Ideal weather, although it did threaten to rain just as we were starting the BBQ.

Taking over from her mother's role at Easter, the awards were presented by our Lady Paramount Sam Morgan, who went one better than her mum and wore the pointy hat all afternoon.

Sunday 12 April – A British Bank Holiday and beautiful weather, whatever next? In addition to the main competition, there was an Easter Bonnet parade and several best golds. With so little practice over the winter, all categories were head-to-head. As everyone got an Easter Egg anyway the competition itself was only fun.

Ladies' barebow: 1 Sheena McCullagh.

(Local round for beginners and under 10s – 4 dozen at 20 yards, 2 dozen at 10 yards.)

Juniors (Mr Happy Best Gold Easter Shoot) – Harry Francis.

The day ended with the traditional B-B-Q and the awards being presented by our Lady Paramount Michelle Morgan, who happily donned the pointy hat with net fastened to the tip.
